... Wageningen

Wageningen is a small town with 35.000 inhabitants, located at the North bank of the river Rhine. Wageningen is dominated by its education and research institutes and related economic activities, in the areas of nutrition and health, sustainable agrosystems, a viable environment and processes of social change. More than half of the working population is employed in this sector. One out of five inhabitants is student. Wageningen University and Research Centre (Wageningen UR) is by far the largest employer. Wageningen presents itself as City of Life Sciences.
However, Wageningen offers more than this network of education, research and related economic activities. In the largely pedestrianized town centre of Wageningen you can find many attractive shops and a variety of bars and restaurants. Frequently, cultural events and music festivals take place. Nature lovers can choose from a variety of beautiful landscapes and nature areas around Wageningen. The largest forest area of The Netherlands (the Veluwe nature reserve) is located North of Wageningen. The beautiful river landscape of Rhine and Meuse stretches out South of Wageningen.
